I have a legal background in that I have a law degree and have completed the Diploma of Legal Practice (the exam the solicitors need to pass to prove their technical competence) – as well as being a fully qualified Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor and obtaining the ICAEW's approved probate qualification.
I have been a partner at Lithgow Perkins LLP since 1999 and thus I have advised on many trust and taxation matters so when I learnt that the ICAEW could licence firms to offer probate services to clients, I felt we could provide something to both existing and new clients that was better and more cost effective than what was already on offer in the market. I therefore jumped at the chance to pass the relevant exams to become accredited and set up LP Probate Services Ltd to look after probate clients.
LP Probate Services Ltd has only been in existence for a short time (when compared to the 60 years of history behind Lithgow Perkins LLP) but already we have helped many clients and saved them thousands of pounds compared to the fees they have been quoted for the same work.
I am always happy to talk to any prospective client for free to outline our services – whether you are someone wanting to ensure that their affairs are looked after properly when they are gone or someone acting as a personal representative looking for help in carrying out your duties.
You can call me on 01423 564446 or email robert@lpprobateservices.co.uk. I look forward to hearing from you.
I joined Lithgow Perkins LLP in August 2003 after obtaining a degree in Accounting and Finance from Leeds Metropolitan University. Since then, I qualified with the ACCA and progressed to be a partner in April 2011.
Together with Robert Horner, I have always had an interest in trust and Inheritance tax matters and as a result I have developed a large portfolio of trust clients. Many of these have arisen from trusts created by wills. Thus Inheritance tax planning and dealing with the tax affairs of trusts and estates has been a key part of my job for many years as I look to maximise the wealth of my clients.
Gaining accreditation from the ICAEW and starting LP Probate Services Ltd was a natural extension of the expertise I already offer my clients.
I believe I offer a professional, cost effective service that is tailored to clients needs whilst remaining friendly and approachable.
I am always happy to talk to any prospective client for free to discuss their needs either in planning their will, offering probate services or acting as an executor.

I joined Lithgow Perkins LLP in November 2010 from a national firm. One big difference between a national firm and a local firm like Lithgow Perkins LLP is the long term, close relationships you form with your clients, their businesses and their families. Having trained at a small two partner practice, I was pleased to join Lithgow Perkins LLP in order to develop those relationships again. Offering a probate service to our clients is one more area of our clients' affairs where we can use our knowledge to help them or their family. At a difficult time we hope it is comforting for you or your family to deal with people you know and who already understand your financial affairs.
One of my roles at Lithgow Perkins LLP as commercial partner is to value businesses and companies. Valuations are often required in the probate process and keeping them inhouse is another way of keeping probate costs to a minimum. When the opportunity arose, I was keen to pass the Certificate in Probate and Estate Administration to enable me to offer these services to my clients.
If you want to know more about me, LP Probate Services Ltd or anything connected with the above, please call me on 01423 564446 or email me at mike@lpprobateservice.co.uk I look forward to hearing from you.
I joined Lithgow Perkins as a trainee in 2004 and went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant with the ICAEW in 2012. During my studies I developed a keen interest in tax matters as it felt like an area where I could make a tangible difference to clients by helping them save money.
Since qualifying, the firm and I decided that focussing on personal tax was the right direction for my career and I have since built a much deeper knowledge of the area. As personal tax manager, I have developed good relationships with clients and have become the first port of call whenever any tax queries arise.
When specialising in personal tax, dealing with trusts and estates has become a key part of my job. Developing a good understanding of estates and the probate process has been important to continue to offer the service levels we demand as a firm. Naturally, when the Partners chose to start LP Probate Services Ltd, this was an area that held great interest to me.
Our aim at LP Probate Services Ltd is to replicate the values that Lithgow Perkins LLP has been built on. Our aim is to offer a professional and cost-effective service tailored to our clients whilst remaining friendly and approachable.
